YANGON, Nov. 25 -- The Myanmar government has accused the ethnic Kachin Independence Army (KIA) of launching more attacks on the government forces' security camps in some areas of Bhamo, northernmost Kachin state, last weekend, official media reported on Tuesday.

Responding to counter-attacks on KIA, the government forces said it has sent a letter to the KIA Conflict Negotiation Committee to seek avoidance of more conflicts between the two sides.

The government had charged KIA with disrupting its forces' normal movement by attacking government troops on Nov. 19 when they were repairing roads with bulldozers to transport food supplies. The government forces returned fire, resulting in casualties from the KIA side.

KIA claimed that a total of 23 trainees were killed and 20 others injured in the government forces' artillery attack on a KIA military training school near Laiza, home to the KIA headquarters, in the Kachin state on the same day.

In May this year, the Myanmar government and KIA formed a conflict mediation team as part of the first phase of implementing a joint monitoring mechanism following bilateral peace talks between the two sides.

The conflict mediation team is set to meet monthly.

The armies of the two sides had once clashed in some three areas of Kachin state in early April.
