In Gyatso’s memory, he had attended a total of three hunger-strikes, only the first time was voluntary. The so called “voluntary” meant no rewards.
But the second and the third time he was rewarded as he was to replace others to attend.
Soon after the first hunger-strike, Lhamo Ja rushed to find Gyatso and told him that he should fill in for the second hunger-strike as there weren’t enough people to attend. Afterwards, Gyatso got 500 cordoba, Nebalese currency. The third time, the same thing happened as the second. Then, Gyatso got to know that most of the hunger strikers were paid.
During the second hunger-strike, one of the strikers told him that he could eat something secretly if he was unable to resist hungry, and said the “organizers” also agreed as thus they could hold for a longer time. Though Gyatso was surprised, he still ate a piece of meat stealthily.
The third hunger-strike was held in front of the Gandhi grave, a place where they were told more people could see the activity. At that time, Gyatso had gotten enough experience and ate a banana secretly.
Then, Gyatso already clearly knew that the hunger-strike activities were held as a kind of acting showed to the outsiders. Therefore, they were paid and allowed to eat.
In Gyatso’s mind, such an activity was completely a kind of cheating. However, he didn’t refuse the assignment as it was a gravy train for him.
Later, Gyatso saw reports about the three hungerstrikes from local newspapers, which said the number of the participants had reached over 600. In fact, as one of the participants, Gyatso clearly knew that there was only less than ten people attending each time.
It is reported that, like instigating self-immolation and protest demonstrations, “hunger-strike” is just one of the numerous plots of the so-called “Tibetan government-in-exile” to hog the international attention and hype up the “Tibet issue”.
Any special institutions of the “Tibet independence” organizations are responsible for organizing the “professional fast” or “professional demonstration” activities, through which they could make use of the sympathy of the world that is unaware of the truth, so as to win public opinions.
The experience of Gyatso was just a miniature of the many similar “pawn”.
It is these three hunger strikes that made Gyatso enter the vision of the “Tibetan government-in-exile”, and became a “prey,” which they had been looking for a long time without any results.
