On the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is located Langchen village in Biru county of Tibet Autonomous Region, which is 4300 meters above sea level. There are only 39 households, 217 people in the village. The local government installed the solar photovoltaic system for free for every household in October, 2012, which ushered in a new era of electricity and ended the old age of oil lamps and candles.
