The ancient city walls of Xi’an are in the central area of the city and are best-preserved ancient city walls of China. The walls were built between the 7th and 11th year of the Hongwu Period (1374 A.D. --- 1378 A.D.) of the Ming Dynasty. The perimeter of the walls is 13.74 kilometers. The walls are 12 meters high and have four city doors, each of which consisted of an arrow tower and a gate tower. Outside the walls is a city moat.
