Famen Temple

Located in the Famen Town, about 15 kilometers to the north of the Fufeng Countyseat, Baoji, it is the only temple of the world that keeps the remains of Sakyamuni. The temple started construction in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25 A.D. --- 220 A.D.). Its name was the Ashoka Temple and changed into the current name in the beginning of the Tang Dynasty (618 A.D. --- 907 A.D.). The gold and silver wares found in the underground palace of the temple are all extremely rare wares. The gold-plating Buddhist stick is one of the best in world in the material, shape and handicraft. The weaving skill of the Tang Dynasty was amazingly high: the thinnest gold thread that was used to weave the brocade was only 0.1mm in diameter, thinner than the hair.
