China gears up for annual political season

March 3rd - 1st session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee opens
March 5th - 1st session of the 12th NPC opens

China is gearing up for its annual political season, as the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and the National People’s Congress prepare to meet next week.

The first session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee is set to open on Sunday, and the first session of the 12th NPC on Tuesday. NPC deputies and CPPCC members are arriving in the capital, Beijing from all over the country. The NPC is China’s top legislative body. Through the NPC and all levels of local congresses, the people exercise state power.

And as the top political consultative body, the CPPCC has the functions of conducting political consultation, democratic supervision, and deliberation and administration of state affairs. The new CPPCC’s first session will hold a press conference this Saturday afternoon, with a new media spokesman, Lyu Xinhua.
