BEIJING, May 29 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislature approved on Thursday a decision to establish and improve the legal system and enforcement mechanisms for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to safeguard national security. Such a move, which signifies the start of the process of national security legislation for the Chinese city at the national level, will help crack down on acts of secession, subversion and terrorism, reject external intervention in Hong Kong affairs, and build up a firewall for national security.
General secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping recently vowed to overcome the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak, make more arduous efforts, and secure a decisive victory of poverty alleviation. He made the remarks when visiting national political advisors from the economic sector attending a joint panel discussion at the third session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
The proposed National Security Law (NSL) will meet a long-cherished expectation of the Hong Kong people. The peace-loving and patriotic citizens of the Chinese city have long been expecting this kind of legislation, as they are bearing the brunt of the violence, anarchy, vandalism, sabotage, and subversive acts being committed by the opposition in Hong Kong.
