Infrared cameras capture rare western black crested gibbon throwing stone in NW China’s Yunnan

Infrared cameras captured video footage of a western black crested gibbon throwing a stone from one foot to another in Jingdong county, southwest China’s Yunnan Province. The footage shows a western black crested gibbon, a species under first-class state protection in China, picking up a stone from the ground with its left foot and throwing it into the air, only to quickly catch it mid-air with its right foot.

Over 100 endangered Himalayan vultures spotted in SW China's Yunnan

A flock of over 100 Himalayan vultures, which is a second-class national-protected bird species in China, was recently spotted hovering over the rocky mountains of Baoshan city, southwest China's Yunnan Province. These vultures would often settle on nearby hills, which attracts a large amount of visitors to the area.

Visit Longling Xiaoheishan Provincial Nature Reserve where 11 Hoya species are found

The inclusion of the Hoya gaoligongensis, a new species of Apocynaceae, into the recently published white paper on biodiversity conservation in China and the intensive media coverage of the species has drawn public attention to the plant recently. As a matter of fact, there are 11 Hoya species that inhabit the Longling Xiaoheishan Provincial Nature Reserve, located in the southern region of Gaoligong Mountains, southwest China’s Yunnan province.

It is the largest and oldest wild Taxus chinensis that has ever been found in the region.
