China, Belarus Greet Each Other on Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and his Belarussian counterpart, Mikhail Khvostov, exchanged congratulatory telegrams on Sunday on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and his Belarussian counterpart, Mikhail Khvostov, exchanged congratulatory telegrams on Sunday on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Tang said in his telegram that China and Belarus have enjoyed a deep traditional friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the bilateral ties have developed in a healthy and stable fashion. The frequent high-level contacts have boosted the cooperation in various fields. The Sino-Belarus friendly cooperation based on mutual benefit and mutual trust has made remarkable achievements.

He said the heads of state of the two countries have exchanged visits, declaring in clear terms their commitments to long-term stable all-around friendly cooperation of highly mutual trust and to boosting the relationship to a new high.

Tang said that in recent years, China and Belarus have maintained the good tradition of close cooperation and mutual support. The exchange of ideas and consultations between the two foreign ministries have been strengthened. China is willing to join hands with Belarus to materialize the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and enhance and deepen the Sino- Belarus ties.

In the telegram to his Chinese counterpart, Khvostov expressed his satisfaction with the achievements in the bilateral ties and his confidence in a bright future for the development of the relations.

Khvostov said that in the year 2001, the heads of state of the two countries exchanged visits, deciding the strategic orientation of bilateral cooperation in the 21st century and pushing the relations to a higher level. This was an event of great significance in the history of the bilateral relations.

He noted that developing the relations with China is one of the priorities in Belarus' diplomatic policy, as strongly indicated in the cooperation between the two countries in the United Nations and other international organizations. Belarus now reiterated its principled stand on the Taiwan issue and opposed any attempts to create "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan."
