Xi'an Fans Riot
March 24 saw a fans riot broke out in northwest city Xi'an during the third round matches at the Chinese first division league. Urgent meetings were then held by China Football Association (CFA) and officials concerned. It is quite possible that Xi'an be deprived of the right to host Guoli's league matches judging from the nature of the riot, in which the referee was beaten with police cars and stadium seats set on fire.

Yan Shiduo, vice president of CFA, flied into a fury on learning of the news, saying a severest punishment must be given as soon as possible.

CFA held meeting again on March 25 afternoon to hear reports from all aspects, but the meeting didn't last until night as rumors say.

Judging from the nature of the event, it is quite possible that Xi'an be deprived of the right to host Guoli's league matches, according to a discipline official of CFA who remained unidentified. But the event has gone beyond CFA's power so it must be reported to the State General Administration of Sports for final judgement. Of course, the final result of punishment would be announced by the discipline committee of CFA.

CFA official Li Dongsheng didn't lodge any comment on referee Zhou Weixin, whose "referring problem" triggered off the riot, but said Xi'an fans shouldn't be so crazy no matter how the situation turned out.

As reported, immediately after the match between Shaanxi Guoli and Qingdao Beer, a Qingdao Club official Chi Wei sent a written appeal to Qingdao Club, which was then forwarded to CFA carrying the Club seal.

The main content of the report is, said Chi, first, our player Jiang Feng got injured; secondly, the press conference was cut short and our reporters were not allowed to raise questions; thirdly, our coach was badly pulled and pushed; fourthly, on our way back, our car window was smashed and no safety measure was provided by security staff.

The Guoli Club is also complaining unfairness. The general manager Wang Jianjun said: "we will also appeal to the CFA, because the overtime was three minutes but the match got finished at 93 minutes and 48 seconds", so the Guoli Club would also demand an explanation from CFA.
