Chen Ying Takes Gold in ISSF World Cup

A new face caught the limelight in a star-packed field of eight finalist including the Seoul Olympic champion Salukvadze Nino of Georgia and Chinese Olympic champion Tao Luna on Friday.

A new face caught the limelight in a star-packed field of eight finalist including the Seoul Olympic champion Salukvadze Nino of Georgia and Chinese Olympic champion Tao Luna on Friday.

Chinese shooter Chen Ying claimed the gold medal of women's sports pistol of the International Shooting Sports Federation World Cup, her first title in the international competitions.

The 26-year-old Chen registered 587 points after the qualification, two points behind leader Konishi Yukari of Japan, but jumped to the top after the first 5-shot with 52.9 points. Her steady performance finally brought her the title by a total of 103.0 points.

"It is great to win the title which is the first one for me." said Chen, who was picked into the national team at the year of 2001, "I have advantage in the sports pistol and I did not feel nervous during the competition. It is not a surprise to me."

Tao Luna, the winner of air pistol at the Sydney Olympic Games, overtook Alipava Yuliya of Belarus by 0.2 points to took the silver medal with 685.5 points.

Nino, who won the 10 meters air pistol gold medal on Tuesday, placed fifth with 683.2 points.

Another Chinese shooter Li Duihong, the winner at Atlanta Olympic Games, did not qualify into the final with 579 points.
