Uganda Stops Arms-Trafficking from Sudan to DRC

The Ugandan police have stopped a case of gun-trafficking in West Nile region in northwestern Uganda,local media reported on Thursday.

Police said that the illegal arms were captured on Tuesday which were believed to be ferried from the southern Sudan to the northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Police arrested the man carrying the arms, which consisted of submachine guns and ammunition. Investigation is still underway tofind out the destination of these arms in the DRC.

The gun-trafficking between the Sudan and the DRC, as well as in the Great Lakes region, is very serious. Experts said that as long as firearms are easy to get, insurgencies in this region would go on.
