Chinese Academics Urge int'l Community to Curb Falun Gong Crimes

Prompted by Falun Gong's attack on China's telecommunications satellite, academics nationwide are urging the international community to crack down on the cult's illegal activities.

Prompted by Falun Gong's attack on China's telecommunications satellite, academics nationwide are urging the international community to crack down on the cult's illegal activities.

Cao Zhigang, professor of electronic engineering at Tsinghua University, called for joint efforts to stop Falun Gong manipulating modern technology for evil ends.

"In actively promoting the application of information technology, China aims to boost economic development and bring more benefits to the Chinese people," Cao said. "We will not tolerate the Falun Gong cult using the Internet and attacking Sinosat to publicize its evil teachings.

"The international community should band together to keep such criminal elements from deliberately breaking international rules,"he said.

Yu Ping, a Ph.D. in communications working at Chongqing University, said that modern science and technology was a double-edged sword. It could benefit mankind but could also be manipulated by evil people.

"Using modern technology, Falun Gong is deliberately upsetting universally accepted rules of society. It is openly challenging civilization," said Yu.

Xing Yan, an engineer with the Guangdong branch of China Telecom, called for tough measures against criminal acts by Falun Gong. "We must not allow the Falun Gong cult to have its full rein.We must beef up our precautions and crack down hard on such criminal acts to purify mankind's environment," said Xing.
