Beijing Building Major Logistics Base
Beijing launched the construction of a logistics base Thursday in Shibalidian township, Chaoyang district, with an investment of over 10 billion yuan (1.2 billion US dollars).
Beijing launched the construction of a logistics base Thursday in Shibalidian township, Chaoyang district, with an investment of over 10 billion yuan (1.2 billion US dollars).
The base, beside an expressway connecting Beijing, Tianjin and Tanggu, is expected to be completed in 2007 with complex functionsinvolving logistics, exhibitions, trade and sports.
It is being developed by such companies as the Beijing BHL Logistics Ltd, the Kuok Group in Hong Kong and SOHO China, with Beijing Holdings Ltd (BHL) being the largest shareholder.
Developing the logistics industry would help promote industrialrestructuring and investment environments in the capital, Vice Mayor Zhang Mao said.
The city is also committed to creating three major transport logistics support centers.
The three centers under construction include the Southwest Logistics Support Center in Fangshan District, Jingtai Logistics Support Base in Shunyi District and Tongzhou Logistics Support Park in Tongzhou District.
The Southwest Logistics Support Center, which is expected to cost about 10 billion yuan, has been included in the 2001-2005 social and economic development plan for the capital city.
The three centers are all located near expressways and railways.
These projects would power the economy in the south of the city,underpin the modern manufacturing and service industries and support the 2008 Olympics Games, Zhang Mao said.
