Jiangxi Becomes China's Breeding Ground of Models

East China's Jiangxi Province has become a breeding ground for fashion models.

East China's Jiangxi Province has become a breeding ground for fashion models.

A number of garment models famous at home and abroad have been trained in recent years. The most brilliant is 19-year-old Li Bing,who became the first Chinese model to win the Miss World competition.

Lu Yan, another model native to Jiangxi, won the silver medal at the world model competition held in Beijing in October 2000. Wang Min, one of the 10 top models in China, plays a leading role at Xinsilu, a model company.

Jiangxi Province girls are popular because of their gangly figures, said Li Xiaobai, a leading official of the Xinsilu company.

According to a recent survey, half the slim girls in Jiangxi dream of becoming models after they grow up and 30 percent wish towalk the catwalk someday.

More than 6,000 local girls have received one or two years of professional training and are seeking positions at model companiesin large cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The Ougemei Model Company in Beijing has many models, including the company president, who are native to Jiangxi.

Liao Jun, a Ph.D. from Jiangxi Agricultural University, attributed the good-looks and figures of Jiangxi girls to favorable climate, eco-environment, improved living standards and the unique regional cultural background.
