Turkish deputy prime minister confident 2008 Olympics will be successful
Turkish deputy prime minister andstate minister Mehmet Ali Sahin said here on Monday he believed Beijing will host a "successful" Olympic Games in 2008.
Turkish deputy prime minister andstate minister Mehmet Ali Sahin said here on Monday he believed Beijing will host a "successful" Olympic Games in 2008.
Ali Sahin made the remarks when meeting with Yuan Weimin, president of the State Sports Administration of China.
Ali Sahin said that "to learn" from Beijing in organizing the 2008 Olympics was an important task on his agenda during his visitto China.
Turkey's Istanbul is competing with Havana, London, Leipzig, Madrid, Moscow, New York, Paris and Rio de Janeiro for the right to stage the 2012 summer games. The International Olympic Committee will decide the winner in 2005.
Yuan, also executive president of the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee (BOCOG), said Beijing's preparations for the 2008 Olympics was well under way and construction of a few major venues would start by the end of this year.
"The construction of all venues will be completed by July, 2006,so that test events can be held in 2007," said Yuan.
