Mainland organizations mourn death of Madame Soong

A number of mainland individuals and organizations Saturday sent messages to the relatives of Madame Soong Mei-ling (1897-2003) to mourn her death.

A number of mainland individuals and organizations Saturday sent messages to the relatives of Madame Soong Mei-ling (1897-2003) to mourn her death.

In her message, He Luli, chairperson of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, simply mourned Madame Soong and expressed condolences to her relatives.

Shanghai's Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) sent a message calling Madame Soong a noted figure in China's modern history.

In a message sent by the Soong Qing Ling Foundation, Madame Soong was called a person whose life strode across three centuries.The legendary lives of Madame Soong and her two elder sisters have left a profound impact on modern China, it said.

The Huangpu (Whampoa) Military Academy Alumni Association of China also mourned Madame Soong.

Wenchang City, Hainan Province, the ancestral home of Madame Soong, sent a condolence message in the name of the Municipal CPPCC Committee of the CPPCC, together with the Provincial CPPCC Committee.

Madame Soong was born in Shanghai on March 10, 1897. She died in New York Thursday night at the age of 106.

Madame Soong was widely known for her contribution to China's Anti-Japanese War (1937-1945) and her aspiration for the peaceful unification of the motherland.
