Poisonous meat kills one, sickens 56 in east China

One three-year old child was dead and another 56 people were out of danger after emergency medical care after eating poisonous pork Saturday night in Jiaxing city, east China's Zhejiang province, according to the local health authority.

The victims are farmer workers of a local tile factory and their families. They were poisoned after eating pork containing nitrite, said the health authority.

The police have detained the two vendors who sold the pork without official license. The local government is also conducting a thorough hygiene check in the food industry.
