Spring fishing ban taking effect in Yangtze River valley areas

As from Thursday, a spring fishing ban takes effect in the valley areas of the Yangtze River,the longest in China, in an effort to prevent overfishing and water pollution.

As from Thursday, a spring fishing ban takes effect in the valley areas of the Yangtze River,the longest in China, in an effort to prevent overfishing and water pollution.

The ban will last until June 30, and thus all trawlers and fishing vessels are forbidden in the entire valley areas during the three months, according to regulations issued by the Agricultural Ministry.

It is the third year China has imposed the ban.

Situated at the Yangtze River's outlet to the sea, Shanghai hasadopted strict measures to supervise the fishing area and prohibit all fishing activities during the period.
