61 Chinese citizens detained in UAEOn May 15, the Police of Sharjah, UAE, detained a total of 61 Chinese citizens for group gambling. After searching of the scene, the police found large sum of money, gambling device and drugs.The Chinese consulate general to Dubai paid visit to the Chinese detainees and expressed hope for a fair trial for this case. Some are released and some will be finedA staff with the Chinese consulate general in Dubai says some of the detainees are released already. Some will be fined. And the rest needs to undergo further trials. The court denied the journalist request to interview because the case is still under processing.Gambling and drug not only violate the laws of UAE, but also contradicts the local customs and religious belief. The Chinese citizens abroad ought to improve awareness in observing laws, abide by local laws and regulations; they should show respect to local customs and abandon their undesirable customs, says Mr. Yang, an official of the Chinese consulate general in Dubai.
