Sharon plan contravenes roadmap: PLO member
font size

Member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) executive committee Saleh Ra'fat said Monday Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's unilateral disengagement plan contravenes the internationally-backed roadmap.

Ra'fat told reporters after the executive committee's meeting chaired by leader Yasser Arafat in Ramallah "the quartet committee that will convene in Cairo on June 24 should exert pressure on the Israeli government to implement the first phase of the roadmap."

He said Arafat would inform Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman during the latter's upcoming visit to the territories that the disengagement plan was incompatible with the roadmap.

The PLO executive committee asserted during its Monday meeting resuming preparations for presidential, legislative and municipal elections, Ra'fat said.
