Following a mass food poisoning which had sickened 159 people in its capital city of Nanchang since Tuesday, eastern Jiangxi Province reported another food poisoning in Fengcheng City, according to local government Thursday.
So far, hospitals in Fengcheng have received 99 patients, mainly children and adolescents, who started to report symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea at around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday after eating pot-stewed food produced by Jiangxi Huangshanghuang Industrial Co. Ltd., according to the city's health department.
Previous reports said the products of Huangshanghuang had already poisoned 159 people in Nanchang.
By press time, all the poisoned in the two cities had received hospital treatment and no death was reported.
By Thursday, most of the victims in Fengcheng had been discharged from hospital, while in Nanchang, by 4 p.m., the number of the poisoned had been reduced to 79 as more patients recovered, according to the provincial health department.
The food safety monitoring departments of the two city's have started a comprehensive check on stores selling the brand of "Huangshanghuang" and sealed up all its warehoused items.
In addition, the health departments have taken samples of the products for examination and causes for the poisoning accident were still under investigation by press time.
Jiangxi Huangshanghuang Industrial Co. Ltd. mainly produces meat products and it has 138 chain stores across the province.
