The government will continue and deepen its nationwide campaign against pornographic and pirated publications, so as to create a sound cultural environment for the healthy growth of juveniles.

This was stressed by Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, at the 17th national teleconference on the anti-porn and -piracy drive. Liu is a member of both the Political Bureau and Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

To further carry out the campaign is an important way for cleaning up the environment for the growth of juveniles, the official said.

Officials from the departments of public security, customs and education attended the meeting and called for driving porn and pirated publications away from schools, residential areas and book markets.

At the meeting, a representative of a junior middle school from Taiyuan, the capital of north China's Shanxi Province, read a proposal urging elementary and middle school students all over the country to fight piracy, which was called a "spiritual drug".
