Over 7 million urban Chinese find jobs in first five months
font size

In the first five months, more than 4.8 million urban Chinese found employment, while 2.2 million laid-off workers took new jobs, according to a senior employment official.

Zhang Xiaojian, vice minister of labor and social security, said the figures were respectively 54 percent and 42 percent of the ministry's goals for the year.

The minister acknowledged that China has basically set up a public employment service system and its service network has been formed and improved. This played an active role in promoting employment and outplacement, he noted.

But the minister also warned that some regions in the country are still facing tough work in promoting employment. For example, he quoted some cities where natural resources have been depleted and some industries which suffered contraction due to recent government efforts against overheating concerns in some sectors.

Both would cause job loss in the regions and industries.
