860,000 farmers and herdsmen joined cooperative health systems in Qinghai

Qinghai province actively implements new cooperative health systems in the agricultural and pastoral areas. Until the end of May 863,400 farmers and herdsmen have joined cooperative health systems in Qinghai province and 43,000 have had reimbursement for their medical expenses.

It was learned that in October 2003 Qinghai conducted pilot cooperative health system reform in eight counties such as Dulan. Till the end of May the cooperative health systems has reimbursed 43,000 farmers and herdsmen for their medical expenses totaling 7,142,500 yuan, with per capita reimbursement of 163 yuan.

It was also learned that from next year the system would be implemented province-wide.
