China's IT industry ranks second in the world

In recent years, a rapid development has been witnessed n China's electronic information technology industry, and is now becoming the pillar industry day by day. In the year 2003, the industry achieved 1,880 billion yuan (US Dollar 220 billion) in sales revenue with a year-on-year increase of 34 percent, disclosed Gou Zhongwen, Vice-minister of Information Industry the other day. In terms of scale, China' electronic information industry has surpassed Japan in sales revenue, and is only next to the USA, occupying a second place in the world.

Gou remarked that the rapid development of the electronic information industry has enhanced its driving forces on the country's GDP growth. In 2003, the whole industry accomplished a proportion of industrial increment on the country's GDP, an increase from 3 percent in 2002 to 4 percent, and its contribution ratio in the 9.1 percentage growth of national economy rose from 0.39 percent in 2002 to 0.64 percent. In view of the import and export trade volume, the electronic information industry took up a proportion of about 32 percent as against all other industries in China.
