font size

Various parts of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) have been hit hard by recent torrential rains in July, the Korean Central News Agency reported Monday.

At least 100,000 hectares of paddy and non-paddy fields were submerged or washed away. Dwelling houses for more than 1,000 families and public buildings were destroyed in over 70 cities and counties of South Phyongan, South Hwanghae, Kangwon, Ryanggang andother provinces from July 1 to July 25, said the report.

It is hard to expect any harvest from the fields washed away and silted, and harvest in many fields is expected to drop 30 percent.

Meanwhile, hundreds of sections of roads and railroad beds were also destroyed with electric and telecommunication facilities damaged, said the report.
