font size

The Chinese weightlifting team displayed a strong confidence to have their best ever Olympic show upon their arrival at Athens Sunday afternoon.

With smile on his face, Chinese gold medal hopeful Zhang Guozheng walked out of the Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport after a 10-hour trip with his teammates in a chartered flight.

"I don't feel tired at all after the long-time flight. I am sure that our team can give an even stronger performance in Athens," said the 69-kg class lifter.

The Chinese hercules collected five gold medals in Sydney, with the strong women taking a clean sweep of four golds on offer.

According to Ma Wenguang, president of Chinese Weightlifting Association, the Chinese team expect to take at least four gold medals. "At the best, we hope to collect six golds," he said.

"Our boys are determined to secure at least one gold. And if luck falls, they may take away four while our girls are expected to bring home three to four golds," he added.
