Moon cakes reminiscent of fable
font size

The annual Mid-Autumn Festival is looming around the corner. As always, it is a business opportunity for many to promote and sell moon cakes.

It is hard to change the basics of a moon cake and innovators seem to be at the end of their rope. But new room has been found to make a breakthrough and that is in packaging, Shenzhen Daily reported Tuesday.

This is most obvious for the moon cakes produced by Crowne Plaza Shenzhen this year. The box is elegant enough to remind you of an ancient Chinese fable and the pearl buyer who was so fascinated by the glittering packaging box that he kept the box and gave the pearls back to the seller.

The hotel's moon cake boxes are made of quality wood. Its outside is half leather and half Western classic painting. On the inside of the cover is a cream-colored picture showing a commercially prosperous Venice of the past. The boxes contain four or eight moon cakes. Each cake sits in its own pit that is padded by bright yellow silk.

This year the hotel is mainly offering lotus paste with double egg yolks and gold leaves moon cakes, black dates paste with egg yolk moon cakes and green tea paste moon cakes.
