Megawati vows to take stern action against discrimination on Chinese descents
font size

Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri stressed on Tuesday that she would take a stern action against those who still implement discriminating rules against the Chinese descents in Indonesia.

The president made the statement during her meeting with over 100 businessmen of Chinese origin across the country.

Some of the businessmen complained of being asked by administrators about their letter of Indonesian citizenship (SBKRI).

"I will ask the coordinating minister for politics and security affairs to take stern action against those who persistently hamper (administration) or implement the SBKRI," the president said.

Megawati reaffirmed that those rules had been abrogated.

She said that she had tried to dissolve the problem.

The president asked the communities of Chinese descents to unite and bravely refute the rules as they had been abrogated.
