The United States on Tuesday demanded Libya to make compensation for the victims of the 1986 LaBelle disco bombing in West Berlin.
The US State Department made the request after Libya had agreedto compensate more than 160 non-US victims of the 1986 bombing of a West Berlin nightclub.
It was reported that Libya agreed to pay 35 million US dollars to non-US victims of the Berlin bombing.
"Obviously, we would view it as a welcome step, but we would also want to take the opportunity to reiterate our view that it isimportant that efforts are also made to resolve the claims of the American victims as well," deputy State Department spokesman Adam Ereli told reporters.
"This is an issue of importance to us, and we are following it closely, and we think it needs to be resolved," he said.
Two US soldiers and a Turkish woman were killed and more than 200 people were injured by the explosion at "La Belle", a disco popular among US soldiers.
A German court ruled in 2001 that the Libyan secret service wasbehind the bombing and convicted four people, including a former Libyan diplomat.
Libya, which has been making great efforts to shake off three decades of international isolation, has agreed to pay 2.7 billion dollars to the families of the victims of the 1988 Lockerbie airliner bombing, for which a Libyan secret agent was convicted.
It has also pledged 170 million dollars in compensation for the1989 bombing of a French airliner over Niger.
