Senior Tanzanian govt. official shot dead at home

A senior Tanzanian government official has been shot at his home by armed robbers andlater died in hospital, local press reported on Wednesday.

The deceased official was identified as Evarist Manumbu who hadbeen serving as the director of policy and planning in the Ministry of Health, local newspaper Daily News said.

Acting Dar es Salaam Regional Police Commander Venance Tossi said that the bandits had robbed the official's servant and guard of 80,000 Tanzanian shillings (73 US dollars) and some recharge vouchers for cellular phones, but took nothing from the deceased official.

The police are still investigating the incident that occurred on Monday night.
