The Chinese authorities are studying the aftermath of typhoon Rananim, which hit east China's Zhejiang Province and left 63 people dead, more than 1,800 injured, and 42,400 houses damaged.

The typhoon has brought about more than 15.3 billion yuan (about 1.84 billion US dollars) in direct losses, said the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters Friday. It promptedthe closing of more than 500 roads and damaged a quarter million hectares of farmland.

Premier Wen Jiabao and Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu gave instructions to the area ahead of the arrival of the typhoon, while the headquarters has also sent emergency circulars on possible dangers of the disaster.

The typhoon Rananim, the 14th this year, devastated many parts of Zhejiang, one of the most-developed coastal areas in the country, between Thursday evening and Friday morning.
