Japan sweeps first two judo golds
font size

Japan swept the first two judo gold medals at the Athens Olympic Games Saturday in Athens.

Tadahiro Nomura turned a new chapter in Olympic judo history, winning his third straight gold in the men's 60kg division, which was Japan's 100th Summer Olympic gold.

Nomura out-pointed Nestor Khergiani of Georgia in an electrifying final at Ano Liossia Hall. No judoka before Nomura has ever won three straight golds.

Judoka Ryoko Tani captured Japan's first gold the Athens Games with a 4-1 win over France's Frederique Jossinet in the women's 48kg class.

It was Tani's second straight Olympic title. She won in Sydney four years ago, but missed the gold in Atlanta in 1996.
