China's Yu Zaiqing, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) who was elected into the IOC executive board at its 106th session last Wednesday, is to present medals for the women's 48kg weightlifting at the Athens Olympics Saturday, the opening day of the power sport competitions.
The organizing committee of the Games said Yu, also vice president of the Chinese Olympic Committee, is scheduled to present the medals at the Nikaia Olympic Weightlifting Hall around 21:50.
Tamas Ajan, an IOC member and president of International Weightlifting Federation, is to present flowers at the competition.
Athens Games weightlifting rivalries reeled off Saturday evening when China's Li Zhuo, a 2002 Asian Games champion, debuted on the Olympic arena to make her quest for the first gold in the sport at the Games.
At the IOC session, Yu won the board's fifth seat after beating Richard Carrion (Puerto Rico), Phillip Walter Coles (Australia), Mostafa Hashemi Taba (Iran) and Carlos Arthur Nuzman (Brazil).
Yu gained 62 votes against Oswald's 48 in the final round of the voting.
