Russia's Alipov wins Olympic men's trap gold

Russia's Alexei Alipov took the Olympic men's trap gold medal on Sunday, tying the Olympic record with 149 hits.

Alipov, who won a World Cup race here last April, hit all 25 targets in the final to finish with an overall score of 149.

Italian Giovanni Pellielo, ranked third in the ISSF world rankings, grabbed the silver medal with 146 hits and Australia's Adam Vella was third on 145.

Australian Michael Diamond, the men's trap gold medallist in the past two Olympics, didn't reach the six-man final, placing eighth in qualifying with a 119 out of 125.
