Russia's Mikhail Nestruev made up for his bitter loss in the men's 10m air pistol final with a victory in the the men's 50m pistol at the Athens Olympics on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old Russian enter the 10-shot final on second place, trailing leader Jin Jong Oh of South Korea by two points. But he overtook Jin after the fourth shot and scored a total of 663.3 points to claim the title.

Jin, who shot 567 points in the qualification round, took silver on 661.5 points. Kim Jong Su of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea was third on 657.7.

"I tried to use the experience gained at the 10m air pistol final," said Nestruev, who was edged into the second place in the last shot by China's Wang Yifu in the men's 10m air pistol final on Saturday.

"One should achieve his goal by two steps. Today is the second step, but the most important is the first," he added.

Tan Zongliang and Xu Dan, both representing China, failed to make it to the final. Six-time Olympian Wang didn't enter the event.
