China to build IT R&D centers
font size

China plans to build research and development centers in eight major cities to support its burgeoning information industry.

The Ministry of Information Industry says they will mainly focus on mobile phones, digital televisions, software and semiconductor products, China Radio International reported Thursday.

The Ministry hopes the centers will help China produce more electronic products with its own intellectual property rights, changing the country from a huge "factory" into an international research center.

China has also invested 70 million US dollars to help foster talented persons in the IT industry.
