American Wariner wins men's 400m gold

Jeremy Wariner led the United States to a clean sweep of all three medals in the men's 400 meters final at the Olympic Games in Athens on August 23.

Wariner, 20, clocked a personal best time of 44 seconds for the title, Otis Harris took the silver in 44.16 and Derrick Brew won the bronze in 44.42.

Wariner shot to fame in 2004 when he won the NCAA titles at 400m and 4X400m relay both indoors and outdoors. He also won the title at the US Olympic trials in July.

Brew, 26, was better known than the other two youngsters. He was the twice world champion in the 4X400m relay in the 2001 and 2003 world championships, in Edmonton and Paris, respectively.
