"Giant of the Century" -- Exhibition in commemoration of the 100th birth anniversary of Deng Xiaoping has drawn at least 30,000 people since its opening Thursday, August 26, in Hong Kong.
Despite heavy rain, many people had queued up at about 9:00 a.m.Sunday, one hour before the exhibition's opening.
Ms. Leung told Xinhua that it is highly necessary to let the young generation to know the history of Hong Kong's return to the motherland. She told her two daughters that it is Deng who let Hong Kong residents live and work in peace the contentment.
Rita Fan, former president of Hong Kong Legislative Council, came to the exhibition on Sunday. This is her second visit to the exhibition.
She said the concept of "One Country, Two Systems" is a great treasure to Hong Kong and the smooth implementation of the policy is the best way to commemorate Deng Xiaoping.
Mr. Lau went to the exhibition with a video camera. He taped all the photos and historic documents, saying "I want to keep all these precious materials."
Many visitors took photos with Deng Xiaoping's bronze statue or in front of a big photo of Deng.
At the other side of the exhibition hall, a documentary film on Deng attracted much of the audience. As there were only 80 seats, many had to stand there to watch.
Some 230 pictures and 80 exhibits are put on the show, which will last till Sept. 4.
Deng's three daughters came all the way from Beijing to attend the opening of the exhibition Thursday.
