Paksitan's new cabinet sworn in
font size

Pakistani Prime Minister ShaukatAziz's new cabinet which comprised all the 20 old cabinet members and a dozen of new faces came into being Wednesday.

The 32-member cabinet took oath of their office at the Presidential House.

President Pervez Musharraf administered the swearing-in ceremony, which attracted Shaukat Aziz, ruling Pakistan Muslim League (QA) leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, and members of the parliament and senior officials.

The portfolios of the ministers had not been announced, but they were likely made public later in the day.

Officials said Aziz, a former finance minister, would retain the Finance Ministry and Khurshid Kasuri, who has led peace talks with India, would stay in the Foreign Office.

Aziz was elected Pakistan's 23rd prime minister Friday by the National Assembly and sworn in Saturday.

Cabinet changes would not bring about dramatic policy shifts and Pakistan's policy to support Washington in the war on terror would not change since President Musharraf wields ultimate power as president, said analysts.
