28 children injured in day-care center attack in East China city

Twenty-eight children were injured Saturday morning when a man broke into a day-care center in Suzhou City of Jiangsu Province and slashed at the kids with a knife. No death was reported.

The suspect, 41-year-old Yang Guozhu, broke into the day-care center on No. 13 Baiyun Street of Wuzhong District, Suzhou City, at 10 am.

He had hurt 28 children and was about to light up the gasoline and explosives when policemen on patrol arrived in time to stop him.

The injured children were rushed to Suzhou No. 2 People's Hospital, Suzhou Children's Hospital and the People's Hospital of Wuzhong District for emergency treatment. None of them was seriously wounded, according to doctors.

The children were sent to the day-care center by their parents, all migrant workers from rural areas who had to work on weekends.

According to the police, Yang is a native from Muyang County of the province and has a temporary lodging in Wuzhong District.

Further investigation is underway.
