Cathay applies for Shanghai cargo services
font size

Hong Kong's main carrier Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. said Tuesday that it had applied to launch cargo services to Shanghai.

We have recently submitted an application for cargo services to Shanghai. We are waiting for the governments feedback, a spokeswoman said. No further details were available.

Hong Kong and the mainland agreed earlier this month to boost the number of passenger and cargo flights between the two.

The pact allowed Cathay to apply to add flights to Beijing, launch passenger services to Xiamen and all-cargo services to Shanghai. But the airline will have to wait until October 2006 before it can begin flying passengers along the lucrative Shanghai route.
