In light of the current discussion over the extension of the retiring age, an official from Ministry of Labour and Social Security made clear that China will not extent the retiring age.
Recently, some research institutions put forward a proposal that state should extend the retiring age so as to ease the pressure of aging problems upon the social security system in view of the present situation that many people have become senile before getting rich and lacked inadequate pension. However, officials from Ministry of Labour and Social Security said that the extension of the retiring age is not the policy China needs to implement.
According to the statistics, the present legal retiring age is 60 for male workers, 55 for female cadres and 50 for female workers. And for those working in the pit, high above the ground, at the high temperature, under strenuous labour or with toxic chemicals and their working lives have met state regulation, the retiring age is 55 for males and 50 for females. These rules and regulations fully took China's reality of employment and social security into consideration. With the regard to the implementation, there have always been many male and female retirees who haven't reached the retiring age or sought early retirement. Therefore, what we need first is to execute those relevant rules and regulations. As for the inadequate pension, state will make up through financial subsidy and extensive taxation collection.
