French President Jacques Chirac will pay a state visit to China and attend the opening ceremony ofthe French Culture Year from Oct. 8 to 12 at the invitation of Chinese President Hu Jintao.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan made the announcement at a routine news conference here Thursday.
