400,000 mainland visitors expected to HK during Golden Week holiday
font size

About 400,000 mainland visitors are expected to visit Hong Kong during the National Day Golden Week holiday, according to a government news release Monday.

Commissioner for Tourism Eva Cheng said the high prediction is due to the sustained interest of Guangdong visitors, coupled with that of visitors from nine additional cities in Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Fujian provinces recently covered by the Individual Visit Scheme.

She said measures will be implemented in Hong Kong to handle the influx, and enhance visitors' travel experience.

The measures cover arrangements for immigration clearance at boundary control points, tourism facilities, information dissemination, visitor information, consumer protection, co-ordination with Guangdong Province, and protection of visitor health.

Cheng said the measures will enhance the flow of visitors through various boundary control points, increasing the capacity of transportation facilities, and stepping up promotion and information dissemination to visitors on consumer protection and health issues.

She said Government departments are well prepared and will flexibly deploy resources. Close liaison will be maintained with the Guangdong Provincial Tourism Administration for the latest on visitor flow.
