The Macao Chamber of Commerce on Thursday hosted a cocktail reception to mark the 55th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Ma Man Kei, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and president of the Macao Chamber of Commerce, said that the Chinese people of all ethnic groups who unite under the leadership led by President Hu Jintao have been striving to meet a common goal of achieving an initial modernization of the nation in the middle of the 21st Century.
He said that as the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government entered its 5th year of administration, it has carried out pragmatic policies by adhering to the Basic Law to achieve a sound political and social stability as well as an economic take-off. During the process, Macao people have fully exercised their right of self-governing.
Ma stated that Macao SAR Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah's high supporting rate in his re-election has suggested the leader and the government enjoy a popular confidence that their work will continue to follow the current development track.
Ma said that with a strong support from the central Government and the sound administrative foundation of the SAR government, Macao people can expect a promising future.
Wang Jinxiang, deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, and Wan Yongxiang, Commissioner of the Foreign Ministry in the Macao SAR, attended the reception along with some 300 Macao celebrities.
