A national sculpture exhibition will be held from Oct. 17 to Nov. 3 in Xiamen City of south China's Fujian Province.
The Sculpture Exhibition of the 10th National Art Works Exhibition is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Xiamen City Government and Association of Chinese Artists (ACA). It is the first time that the big-name art exhibition is held in a southern city, according to organizers.
Similar sculpture exhibitions were held mainly in northern cities such as Beijing and Changchun in northeast China's Jilin Province where many sculptures are located. This is because the pieces are large and difficult to move.
In fact, the 201 sculptures presented in Xiamen have passed thepreliminary screening process in Changchun and will leave Changchun for Xiamen on Oct. 8.
The works qualified for the Xiamen exhibition and represent thetop-notch standard of the Chinese artists. The pieces reflect the thinking of the Chinese society at the current transitional period, said Zou Wen, secretary general of the ACA Sculpture Committee.
A series of seminars and lectures will also be held in Xiamen accompanying the exhibition. Young sculptors from Taiwan will be invited to attend a special cross-strait youth sculpture exhibition and exchange artistic ideas with their mainland peers, said organizers.
