The navies of Indonesia and Malaysia are holding a coordinated patrol in waters off Indonesia's Riau Islands as part of their joint efforts to combat terrorism in the Strait of Malacca, reports said Wednesday.
Around 560 personnel and eight warships belonging to the two navies will be involved in the five-day annual exercise, which will conclude on Friday, said The Jakarta Post newspaper.
Indonesian Navy Western Fleet chief of staff Commodore MoekhlasSidiq said the two navies would improve their capabilities in combating sea crimes, including terrorist attacks that could target vessels passing through one of the world's busiest waterways.
