US says ready to have six-party talks "at an early date"
font size

The United States said on Tuesday that it is ready to go to the six-party talks aimed at resolving the nuclear issue of the Democratic People's Republic ofKorea (DPRK) "at an early date."

"We have made clear we are prepared to those talks at an early date," State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said at a news briefing.

"We were hoping that North Korea would meet its previous commitment to have the talks in September. We were ready to do that. We remain ready to the talks at an early date, but I am not sure any word has come from the North Koreans about their willingness to do what they had promised to do. In fact, we just see continued excuses and statements giving reasons for delay," Boucher said.

The United States has said that it is still committed to the six-party process although the talks did not take place in September as scheduled.

Three rounds of the six-party talks, hosted by China, have beenheld to try to end the nuclear confrontation between the DPRK and the United States.
